Subject: Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) Effectiveness
The National Highway Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that test track studies evaluating ABS (Anti-Lock Brakes) effectiveness have shown it to be a beneficial safety device. ABS allows a driver to stay in control of a vehicle while braking during extreme stopping conditions. However, some statistical analyses suggest that ABS does not reduce the number of automobile crashes where it was thought ABS was involved. Why ABS does not appear to be effective in reducing all types of crashes?
